The afternoon sun poured over the yard, painting everything gold. A soft breeze stirred the leaves, carrying the smell of ripe mangoes from the neighbor’s tree. Kevin, the playful baby monkey, sat on the low fence, his tail swaying lazily as he watched Sumi and the dog play in the grass. Sumi, a cheerful little girl with sparkling eyes, was tossing a small ball for the dog — a fluffy golden retriever named Lucky.
Lucky barked happily every time Sumi threw the ball, sprinting across the grass and bringing it back with wagging tail and tongue lolling out. Kevin tilted his head curiously, his little hands clapping with excitement. He loved to play too — especially when Sumi and Lucky were around.

“Kevin, you want to play?” Sumi asked, holding up the ball.
Kevin jumped down immediately and nodded, making tiny excited noises. He loved games that involved running, chasing, and a little chaos. Sumi laughed, tossing the ball far across the yard. Both Lucky and Kevin darted after it — one on four legs, the other on two, his tiny arms swinging.
Lucky reached the ball first, of course. His legs were longer, and he was fast. But Kevin wasn’t about to give up so easily. He pounced on Lucky’s back, grabbing his fur and giggling as the dog barked in surprise.
“Hey! No cheating, Kevin!” Sumi called, laughing so hard she could barely stand.
Kevin squeaked and wrapped his tiny arms tighter around Lucky’s neck, as if he were riding a horse. Lucky spun around in circles, wagging his tail like a helicopter. Sumi clapped her hands, delighted by the sight of her two best friends tumbling across the grass together.

Then Kevin’s playful instincts took over completely. He slid off Lucky’s back and landed beside him, wrapping his arms around the dog’s leg and trying to pull him down. Lucky, thinking it was all part of the game, lay down and rolled over, pawing gently at Kevin.
Sumi saw her chance. “I’m coming to help you, Kevin!” she shouted dramatically, running over and diving onto the grass beside them.
The yard erupted into laughter, barking, and squeals as Sumi and Kevin teamed up to “wrestle” Lucky. Kevin climbed on top of the dog again, pulling his soft ears while Sumi hugged Lucky’s chest, pretending to pin him down.
Lucky barked, wriggled, and tried to roll away, but Sumi shouted, “We’ve got him! Kevin, hold him tight!”

Kevin chattered loudly, puffing his chest like a little hero. Together, they managed to push Lucky onto his side. The golden retriever lay there, panting, his tail thumping the ground in happiness. His tongue flopped out, as if to say, “You win!”
Sumi threw her arms up in victory. “We did it!”
Kevin mimicked her, raising his hands high and letting out a joyful screech. They had conquered the mighty dog — or so they believed.
But Lucky wasn’t done yet. Suddenly, he jumped up, shaking himself free. Grass and tiny leaves scattered everywhere. Before Sumi or Kevin could react, Lucky lunged forward playfully, his paws landing gently on both of them.
Sumi squealed. Kevin tumbled backward, rolling in the grass. Lucky wagged his tail furiously, licking Sumi’s cheek while Kevin scrambled to climb up his back again. It was a mess of laughter, fur, and tiny hands grabbing onto anything they could reach.

The three rolled around together for what felt like forever — a whirl of giggles and joyful chaos. Kevin’s little face was smudged with dirt, Sumi’s hair was full of grass, and Lucky looked as if he’d just come out of a haystack. But none of them cared.
Finally, they all collapsed under the big mango tree, exhausted but happy. The shade felt cool, and the air was soft with the scent of flowers. Sumi lay on her back, catching her breath. Kevin sat beside her, holding one of Lucky’s ears and absentmindedly stroking it. Lucky rested his head on Sumi’s stomach, eyes half-closed in bliss.
“That was the best wrestling match ever,” Sumi murmured between giggles.
Kevin nodded and gently patted Lucky’s nose. The dog responded with a warm lick, making Kevin squeal and wipe his face with both hands.
Sumi turned on her side and smiled at them. “You know what, Lucky? You’re the best dog in the world. And you, Kevin — you’re the bravest little monkey ever.”
Kevin puffed up proudly, sitting tall and beating his chest softly, just like he’d seen big monkeys do on TV. Sumi burst out laughing again. Lucky wagged his tail in agreement, sending up little puffs of dust.
After a few minutes, Sumi got up and fetched a small basket of fruit her mom had left on the porch — bananas, slices of watermelon, and a few sweet mangoes. She handed a banana to Kevin, who peeled it clumsily and stuffed it into his mouth. Lucky got a slice of mango, which he ate happily, juice dripping from his muzzle.
“Good job, team,” Sumi said, munching on her own fruit. “We’re the best wrestling squad ever.”
Kevin nodded, his cheeks full of banana, and raised his tiny hand for a high five. Sumi grinned and gently tapped his hand. Then she looked at Lucky. “You too, buddy.”
Lucky barked once, as if saying “Of course,” and licked her hand.
As the sun dipped lower, the golden light wrapped around them like a warm hug. Kevin climbed onto Sumi’s shoulder and rested his little head against her cheek. Lucky lay down beside them, letting out a soft sigh. The yard grew quiet except for the rustle of leaves and the distant hum of crickets.
Sumi whispered, “I wish every day could be like this.”
Kevin made a tiny cooing sound, as if he agreed. The bond between them wasn’t just friendship — it was family. They didn’t need words to understand each other; their laughter and play said everything.
Just when the peace settled in, Lucky rolled over onto his back, legs in the air, and started wiggling again. Sumi gasped, “No! Don’t start another round!” But Kevin was already bouncing on Sumi’s lap, ready to pounce again.
And so the wrestling match continued, with more laughter echoing across the yard as the sun slowly disappeared behind the trees.
By the time Sumi’s mom called them inside, all three were covered in grass and dirt. Sumi’s hair was wild, Kevin’s fur was messy, and Lucky looked like he’d gone through a mud puddle.
Sumi’s mom laughed at the sight. “What happened to you three?”
Sumi giggled, pointing at Kevin and Lucky. “We wrestled the dog down with us!”
Her mom smiled warmly. “Looks like everyone won.”
That night, after a warm bath and a good dinner, Sumi tucked herself into bed. Kevin curled up at the foot of her bed, holding a little stuffed toy, and Lucky lay right beside them, keeping watch.
As Sumi’s eyes drifted shut, she whispered sleepily, “Good night, my wrestling champions.”
Kevin yawned and made a soft little sound. Lucky’s tail thumped once against the floor.
And in that quiet, cozy room, the three friends — a girl, a monkey, and a dog — dreamed of another golden afternoon filled with laughter, friendship, and another round of joyful wrestling in the sunshine.
