The morning sun peeked through the window of the little kitchen, painting the counters with a soft golden glow. Mom was already busy preparing breakfast. She had laid out slices of bread, a small bowl of butter, and some eggs ready to cook. But today, she had something special in mind—fresh orange juice to brighten the morning.
Just as she was thinking about how to start, in walked Lala, her clever little helper. Lala wasn’t just any child—she had a spark of curiosity in her eyes, a natural eagerness to learn, and a smile that could make even the most ordinary day feel like a celebration.
“Good morning, Mom! What are you doing?” Lala asked, tilting her head toward the counter.
“I’m about to make some fresh orange juice,” Mom replied with a smile. “Would you like to help me?”
Lala’s face lit up instantly. “Yes! Yes! I want to help! I’m really smart today!” she declared proudly, as if she had suddenly gained the wisdom of an orange-juice expert.
Mom chuckled. “Alright then, Smart Lala, let’s get started.”
Picking the Oranges
The first task was to gather the oranges. Mom opened a small basket filled with bright, round fruits. The oranges were plump and fragrant, their peels glowing under the sunlight.
“Which ones should we pick, Lala?” Mom asked.
Lala leaned over the basket, carefully examining each fruit. She tapped them lightly, sniffed them, and even rolled them in her hands. “This one feels heavy,” she said. “That means it’s juicy, right?”
Mom nodded in approval. “Exactly, Lala! The heavier the orange, the more juice it has.”
Together, they selected the ripest, juiciest oranges. Lala carried them proudly to the counter, one by one, as though each orange was a treasure.

Washing the Oranges
“Now, before we juice them, we have to wash them,” Mom instructed.
Lala climbed onto her little stool by the sink. She turned on the faucet, giggling as the water splashed. Carefully, she rubbed each orange under the water, humming a silly song she made up on the spot:
“Wash, wash, wash the orange,
Make it shiny, clean, and bright,
Juice will taste so yummy,
Morning feels just right!”
Mom laughed at her daughter’s creativity. “You make even washing fun!”
When all the oranges were clean, Lala lined them up neatly on the counter like little soldiers ready for duty.
Cutting the Oranges
“Now comes the tricky part,” Mom said, holding a knife. “We need to cut the oranges in half.”
Lala’s eyes widened. “Can I cut them too?”
Mom shook her head gently. “Not yet, sweetheart. Knives are sharp. But you can watch and learn.”
So Lala watched closely as Mom sliced through each orange. The bright orange flesh glistened, and the sweet aroma filled the room. Juice droplets sparkled like tiny gems on the cutting board.
“Look at all that juice hiding inside!” Lala exclaimed.
“Yes,” Mom agreed. “And soon we’ll taste it.”

Adding a Touch of Sweetness
Once all the oranges were juiced, they looked at the container filled with golden liquid.
“Should we taste it?” Mom asked.
“Yes!” Lala said eagerly.
Mom poured a little into a small glass for Lala. She took a sip and puckered her lips. “It’s a little sour!” she admitted, giggling.
Mom smiled. “Some oranges are sweeter than others. We can add a little sugar if you like.”
Lala nodded wisely. “Yes, just a tiny bit. Too much sugar is not healthy!”
Mom laughed. “You’re absolutely right, Smart Lala.”
They stirred in just a spoonful of sugar, enough to balance the sourness. Lala tasted again and gave a satisfied nod. “Perfect!”
Serving the Juice
Now came the most exciting part—serving the juice. Mom took out two tall glasses, and Lala carefully poured the golden drink, her little hands steady and serious. She even added ice cubes with a small spoon, making sure not to spill.
“Ta-da! Orange juice, made by Smart Lala!” she announced proudly.
Mom raised her glass. “Cheers to my little helper!”
They clinked their glasses together and took a sip. The juice was refreshing, tangy, and sweet—just the way homemade juice should be.
Cleaning Up
After enjoying their drink, Mom said, “Now we need to clean up the kitchen.”
Lala didn’t complain. Instead, she rolled up her sleeves and got to work. She wiped the counter, carried peels to the trash, and even rinsed the juicer. Though she splashed more water than she used, her effort made Mom smile.
“You’re not only smart but also responsible,” Mom said warmly.
Lala beamed. “I’m helping like a big girl!”

A Lesson Learned
When the kitchen was tidy, they sat together for breakfast—bread, eggs, and their fresh orange juice.
“Mom,” Lala said between sips, “making juice is like magic. You take something whole, squeeze it, and it becomes a drink!”
Mom nodded. “That’s the beauty of simple things. Sometimes the best treats come from what we already have.”
Lala thought for a moment, then added proudly, “And it tastes even better when we make it together.”
Mom kissed her forehead. “Exactly, my love.”
The Smart Helper
From that day on, whenever Mom mentioned making juice, Lala would jump up and say, “I’ll help! I’m the Smart Lala Juice Maker!”
And every time, she brought not just her little hands but also her big heart—full of love, curiosity, and joy—turning an ordinary kitchen task into a beautiful memory.
Because in the end, the sweetest part of the orange juice wasn’t the sugar or the fruit. It was the laughter, teamwork, and love shared between Mom and her smart little helper.
