Wounded but Not Defeated: Eric’s Journey Toward Healing and a Second Chance at Life

In the quiet of the night, I came across a heart-wrenching scene that I’ll never forget—an injured dog laying helplessly in a gutter. His eyes were filled with fear, and it was clear that he couldn’t move because he had been hit by a car.

We wasted no time and took him to a nearby clinic, “In Safe Hands,” located on Novy Cheryomushki Street. There, he was welcomed with compassion and care.

Despite his injuries, his appetite was strong, and he eagerly ate, showing his resilience and hunger.

The veterinarian’s examination revealed a tough challenge ahead. The dog, who we later named Eric, had a fracture and severe spinal issues that left him unable to walk.

Weighing 50 kg, his size added to the complexity of his recovery. Along with Eric, we also met an elderly man suffering from kidney failure and various tumors, both of them portraying silent but profound suffering

We dedicated ourselves to their care, handling them with great empathy and caution, sensitive to their pain. Eric found comfort in his new environment, where each morning he enjoyed the soothing warmth of the sun, reminding him of better days.

Eric’s path to recovery was demanding, requiring numerous injections and constant vigilance. Even though his progress was slow, there was a positive sign—his hind legs started showing recovery, sparking hope in a difficult situation.

The future may still be uncertain, but knowing that we have given Eric a fighting chance at recovery is heartening. Our ongoing care and hope are focused on his healing and renewal, with the aim of a future where he can live free from pain.
