Deep in the heart of the lush green jungle, where the sunlight filters through the thick canopy and the air hums with the sound of buzzing insects and chirping birds, lived a baby monkey named Miko. His world was a never-ending playground of vines, trees, flowers, and adventure. But more than anything, Miko loved playing one special game—peekaboo!
Miko wasn’t like the other monkeys who were content to jump from tree to tree or munch on bananas all day. He had a curious spirit and a vivid imagination. Every morning, just as the first rays of sunlight began to break through the trees, Miko would begin his daily ritual: searching for the best hiding spot in the jungle.
On this particular day, after a refreshing rain the night before, everything sparkled with dew. The leaves glistened like emeralds, and the earthy scent of wet soil filled the air. Miko’s big, round eyes lit up as he spotted a perfect patch of large green leaves just above the mossy forest floor.
He scurried up a low tree branch and carefully wedged himself between two large leaves, giggling quietly to himself. The leaves curled slightly, just enough to give him a view of the world beyond. From his leafy hiding place, Miko could see butterflies dancing in the sunbeams, ants marching in long lines, and birds swooping from tree to tree.
“Peekaboo!” he chirped softly, pushing one of the leaves aside with a tiny hand before quickly pulling it back.

To anyone passing by, the jungle looked quiet. But if they paid close attention, they might spot a pair of shiny eyes peeking out from between the leaves, watching, waiting.
Suddenly, Miko heard a rustle in the bushes nearby.
It was CUTIS—the kind and gentle man who had adopted Miko and raised him like family. CUTIS was carrying a basket filled with fruits: mangos, guavas, and little chunks of ripe papaya. He walked slowly, calling out softly, “Miko? Where are you, little rascal?”
Miko covered his mouth to hold back a giggle. He watched CUTIS from his hideout, his tail flicking playfully. CUTIS looked left and right, checked behind a tree, and even peered into a hollow log.
Then, with a dramatic pause, he looked right at the leafy bush where Miko was hiding.
“I wonder if Miko is hiding… here!” he exclaimed.
Miko burst out laughing, leaping from the leaves and landing softly on the ground beside CUTIS. He clapped his little hands, thrilled with his successful game.
“You got me!” he squealed.
CUTIS chuckled and handed Miko a piece of mango. “You’re getting really good at hiding,” he said, brushing a few stray leaves from the monkey’s fur. “But you always forget your giggle gives you away.”
Miko munched happily on the mango, juice dripping down his chin.
“Let’s find another hiding spot,” he said excitedly between bites.
So off they went, exploring deeper into the jungle.
Miko led the way, swinging from vines and hopping over roots. CUTIS followed, keeping a close eye on his little friend. They passed a patch of colorful orchids, a sleeping lizard on a sun-warmed rock, and a family of frogs croaking near a tiny stream.
Then Miko stopped.
He had found it.
It was a thick cluster of shrubs with wide, waxy leaves shaped like teardrops. The plants grew in such a way that they formed a natural curtain. Miko carefully slipped behind them and crouched low. He could still see through the cracks, and the shadows kept him cool.
“Peekaboo,” he whispered again, barely able to contain his excitement.
CUTIS pretended not to notice, looking everywhere except where Miko was hiding.
“Hmmm,” CUTIS said aloud, scratching his chin. “Where could Miko be now? Is he under this rock? No. Behind the tree? Nope.”
Miko couldn’t take it anymore. He leapt out and shouted, “PEEKABOO!”
CUTIS laughed heartily, nearly dropping his basket. “You’re too clever!” he said, ruffling Miko’s fur.
They played this game for hours, moving from one leafy hideout to another. Miko even tried hiding in a hanging basket of vines, wrapping himself like a jungle hammock. Sometimes he got stuck and CUTIS had to gently pull him free, both of them laughing all the while.
As the sun climbed higher in the sky, the jungle grew warmer and quieter. The birds began to settle, and even the butterflies seemed to slow their dancing. Miko, now tired from all the excitement, climbed onto CUTIS’s shoulder and rested his head.
CUTIS walked back to their little shelter at the edge of the jungle, Miko softly snoozing against his neck. The day had been full of joy and laughter, all sparked by one of Miko’s favorite things—hiding in the leaves and popping out to say “peekaboo!”
Later that evening, as the jungle glowed under the golden light of sunset, CUTIS and Miko sat on a low wooden bench, watching the sky turn shades of orange and pink.
CUTIS gently stroked Miko’s fur and said, “You know, your little hiding games make every day brighter.”
Miko looked up sleepily, his eyes twinkling. “Tomorrow, I’ll find an even better hiding spot.”
CUTIS smiled. “I’ll be ready.”
And so, with the leaves rustling gently in the evening breeze and the jungle settling into nighttime hush, Miko drifted off to sleep dreaming of new places to hide and even more games of peekaboo.
Because in his leafy jungle world, the simplest joys brought the biggest smiles. And for one small monkey with a big imagination, every leaf was a doorway to fun, laughter, and love. 🍃🐒💚
