Aubrey Plaza revealed why filming X-rated film with real sex scene was a ‘nightmare’

The moment was her first sex scene in a movie

Aubrey Plaza recalled doing a real sex scene in a movie, and it sounded like she wasn’t in any hurry to do it again afterwards.

Plaza has starred in dozens of film and TV shows over the course of career, with some of her best known work being in Parks and Recreation, Agatha All Along, and The White Lotus.

Another credit she has is for the 2013 movie The To Do List which also starred Bill Hader, Rachel Bilson, Andy Samberg, and Superbad favorite Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

In the X-rated movie, Plaza’s character Brandy Klark has a moment of self pleasure. Filming this was the first sex scene she’d done, and little did Plaza know that she actually had to perform the act on herself.

She said doing the scene was a ‘nightmare’. Further speaking to The Sunday Times about the risqué movie, Plaza said: “I was like, this is the weirdest acting job I’ve ever had in my life.”

Plaza went on to praise The To Do List director Maggie Carey for ‘sensitive to things that maybe a male director wouldn’t be sensitive to’.

Meanwhile Carey gushed over Plaza and said that the actor was ‘game for anything’, prioritizing comedy over vanity.

Plaza also discussed filming this particular scene with Conan O’Brien and recalled being told by Carey to ‘masturbate, like it says in the script’.Play

“When I showed up, the camera was mounted on the ceiling, I was in my underwear and a Clinton T-shirt and there were a bunch of old men smoking. You know, the crew guys,” Plaza shared.

They weren’t actually smoking, but that’s how the Monsters University actor imagined it.

“Then I went and touched myself,” she continued. “I thought I was doing one thing and then, when I showed up, it was a whole different thing; it was a full-body shot.”

While Plaza seemingly wouldn’t rush to film such a scene again, she wouldn’t say no to Parks and Rec reboot.

“I mean, I will do whatever Amy Poehler wants to do,” she told UNILAD when posed with the question last year.

“I do whatever she does. If she’s in, I’m in. If she’s out, I’m out,” Plaza went on to say of Inside Out star Poehler.

Fellow Parks and Rec star Rashida Jones has echoed similar sentiments in a separate interview with us.

Jones said of reuniting with her former co-stars: “Oh, anytime, any day. I mean, we all are still friends, we text. I talk to Amy [Poehler] every day.

“If there’s a reason and somebody says, ‘Let’s do it’, I think every single one of us would say yes.”Featured Image Credit: TheStewartofNY/FilmMagic via Getty Images

‘Proud’ actress defends filming real-life unsimulated sex scenes for controversial film

The movie has remained one of the most controversial films thanks to its ‘real life’ sex scene

Margo Stilley has defended filming an unsimulated sex scene, explaining she’s ‘proud’ of the controversial movie.

Back in 2004, Stilley starred in a film alongside Kieran O’Brien, in which the pair took part in a real-life, unsimulated intimate scene.

‘Unsimulated sex’ refers to scenes in which the actors are actually having intercourse, as opposed to acting.

Although rare, there have been a number of films over the years that have used them, including The Brown Bunny, released in 2003, and 2008 flick, Little Ashes.

Despite some of the controversy, Stilley has always defended her decision to film the real-life sex scene in her first movie, 9 Songs.

The romantic drama focused on the intense relationship and sexual encounters between Lisa, a college student, and Matt, an English scientist.

The film’s creators made the decision to have unsimulated sex scenes in the movie, but that certainly ended up being a controversial one.

In fact, it’s now known for being one of the most explicit mainstream movies ever thanks to the fact it featured real-life sex, as opposed to simulated encounters. In one infamous scene, O’Brien actually ejaculates on camera.

Despite the controversy, Stilley has always stood by her decision to take part in the scene.

In a 2008 interview with the Irish Examiner, she explained: “When I did press conferences people would shout abuse at me.”

Stilley described being called a ‘wh**e’ and a ‘sl*t’, adding: “People ask me if I felt that [director] Michael Winterbottom took advantage of me because I hadn’t acted before, but they forget that I developed the character.”

When asked about people’s reactions, Stilley pointed out that the movie was ‘about love and sex’, adding: “It wasn’t porn. I mean, I had sex with my boyfriend last night and that wasn’t porn.

“It was just hot sex! 9 Songs was a real film about love and sex, and I wanted to do that film and I am proud of it.”

Despite being thrust into the spotlight thanks to 9 Songs, Stilley went on to explain that she didn’t feel she had been ‘typecast’ as a result.

“I honestly can say it hasn’t affected my career,” she said. “I don’t get seen only for roles as women who have sex a lot.”

Actor made huge ‘nine-hour’ sacrifice while filming X-rated scene with Natalie Portman

Actor made huge ‘nine-hour’ sacrifice while filming X-rated scene with Natalie Portman

He opened up about the BTS process in an interview with Variety

Actor Charles Melton has expressed how ‘annoying’ the process of preparing to film an X-rated scene with Natalie Portman was in Netflix’s May December.

When it comes to dark comedy dramas, nobody is doing it like Netflix. There’s Don’t Look Up starring Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprioDo Revenge, and the mind-bending, stop-motion animation The House.

Another jewel is Todd Haynes’ Academy Award-nominated May December—a flick that sees Portman’s character Elizabeth Berry becoming familiar with Gracie Atherton-Yoo (played by Julianne Moore) and her husband Joe Yoo (Melton).

May December – Official Trailer

Moore and Melton’s characters are based on Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau, respectively. The former was a middle-aged teacher who began a sexual relationship with the latter, who at the time was a sixth-grade student.

The former educator eventually pled guilty to two counts of felony second-degree rape of Fualaau in 1997. After serving 7.5 years in prison, the pair wed.

One particular moment in May December sees Joe cheating on Gracie by engaging in sexual intercourse with Elizabeth—a moment Melton claims was an ‘annoying process’ behind the scenes.

Speaking to Variety, the Riverdale alumnus called the intimate scene ‘very professional’ before stating: “The whole thing. Natalie, Todd, and I met to discuss the scene, walking through it and ensuring everybody was comfortable.

“There were a few conversations about the prosthetic, regarding what was realistic and what wasn’t. And I had to wear that prosthetic for nine hours that day.

“I didn’t have anything to drink that morning or the night before. That was an annoying process but still very respectful.”

Melton also explained that ‘so much pathos’ went into his character’s portrayal, remarking: “There’s this kind of repressed feeling. How they talk, it’s all right in the throat. For [playing] Joe, these words are forming for the first time.

“It’s like seeing somebody at a party hunched over, protected, and not trying to take up too much space. Joe doesn’t even know he’s doing it.

“It’s part of his adult child that has translated into the physicality of his movement which he’s not even aware. It’s just him existing.”

Melton, who took inspiration for the role from Tony Leung’s character in Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love and Heath Ledger in Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain, also had nothing but praise for May December director Todd Haynes.

“Todd held my hand every step of the way,” he revealed. “He would tell me, ‘You got this, trust your instincts.’

“When you have that support from a director like Todd Haynes, in my opinion, the greatest living director, there’s no boundaries or limits.”

‘Proud’ actress defends filming real-life sex scenes for controversial film

Margo Stilley has reflected on the negative comments she received after filming a real-life sex scenes in one of her films

Margo Stilley has defended one of her most controversial acting credits, saying it hasn’t negatively affected her career.

Being an actor can prove quite difficult for many people as they can struggle to get work or if they do they are typecast in their roles.

Margo Stilley doesn’t feel she falls into either category though, and has defended her decision to film a real-life sex scene in her first film.

Since her first acting role in 2004, Stilley has gone on to appear in several films and TV shows, but she also isn’t afraid of discussing one of her most controversial roles.

In the 2004 film, 9 songs, she starred alongside Kieran O’Brien in a poorly received romantic drama that focused on the intense relationship and sexual encounters between a college student and an English scientist.

Stilley was the student in the movie and the film was able to build up a reputation one of the most explicit mainstream movies ever thanks to the fact it featured real-life sex, as opposed to simulated encounters.

In one infamous scene, O’Brien actually ejaculates on camera.

With a rating of just 24 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, 9 Songs isn’t exactly beloved by movie fans and, in fact, earned criticism for its numerous sex scenes, which one reviewer described as ‘exceedingly boring’.

However, Stilley has stood by her decision to actually perform on camera despite the fact it left people ‘really angry’ with her.

Natalie Portman and Julia Roberts gave each other hilarious gift after working on ‘masterpiece’ film that’s set to leave Netflix

The wording on the gifts is nothing short of iconic

Natalie Portman and Julia Roberts starred in a 2004 romantic drama together and bonded over their characters so much they bought each other specific gifts.

Written by Patrick Marber (The Critic), the movie is based on Marber’s own award-winning 1997 play with references to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte’s 1790 opera Così fan tutte.

The film was directed by Mike Nichols (The Graduate) and produced by Nichols alongside Cary Brokaw (The Resident) and John Calley (The Da Vinci Code).

It features an all-star cast of Julia Roberts (Leave the World Behind), Natalie Portman (V for Vendetta), Jude Law (Eden) and Clive Owen (Cleaner) – with Owen and Portman winning awards for their roles, alongside a win for the cast as an ensemble.

The flick – titled Closer – marked the first time Portman and Roberts worked together and the actors bonded so much over certain similarities between their characters they ended up giving each other gifts.

In the film, Portman plays the role of stripper Alice and Roberts the role of photographer Anna.

And off the back of their characters’ foul use of language, Portman told Interview Magazine she gifted Roberts a necklace at the start of filming which read ‘c**t’.

Roberts later reportedly returned the favor at the end of production by giving Portman a necklace reading ‘Lil’ c**t’.

Iconic.

But if you’re still wondering whether to add the film to your ‘To Watch’ list despite the stellar cast?

Synopsis and reviews of Closer

Well, the story centers on American stripper Alice (Portman) who moves to London and bumps into a man (Law) on the street – to disastrous consequences, but with quite a sweet outcome. The question is, will the relationships formed withstand the test of time?

The film was a hit at the box office, grossing over $115 million worldwide on a $27 million budget, as per Box Office Mojo.

Owen won a British Academy Film Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Closer. He and Portman also won Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actor and Actress.

The ensemble won an award with the National Board of Review and Owen another with the Las Vegas Film Critics Society – among others.

And the film has received an outpouring of support online.

As a Twitter user said: “I f**king love this movie.”

And another simply resolved: “Gotta watch this now.”
