Xuxu got lost and sat down to call her mother to pick her up. monkey

The sun was slowly setting over the quiet village, painting the trees gold and orange. Little Xuxu, the playful baby monkey, had been jumping from one branch to another all afternoon. She was curious about everything — the buzzing insects, the colorful flowers, even the kids playing with sticks near the road. But that curiosity often got her into trouble.

Her mother, Luna, had warned her earlier that day, “Don’t go too far, Xuxu. Stay close to the big mango tree, or you might get lost.” Xuxu nodded eagerly, but her mind was already elsewhere — full of ideas for adventure.

As Luna turned to gather some fruits, Xuxu spotted something shiny down the dirt path — a crumpled candy wrapper fluttering in the wind. She thought it looked like treasure. “Ooo! Shiny!” she squeaked and began to follow it. The breeze carried the wrapper farther, teasing her tiny steps.

Before she knew it, she had wandered far beyond the mango tree, past the rice field, and near the village market. She looked around — no familiar trees, no mother, no smell of home. Only strange sounds: people talking, chickens clucking, and a motorcycle passing by.

Xuxu froze. Her little heart began to beat fast. “Mama?” she called softly. No answer. “Mama!!” she cried louder, her voice trembling.

For the first time, the brave little monkey realized she was lost.

She climbed onto a low wall and looked around, but every direction looked the same. She didn’t know which way was home. The people nearby noticed her — a tiny monkey with big, worried eyes. Some laughed kindly, others pointed and said, “Look at the lost baby monkey!”

One old woman came closer and offered a banana. Xuxu looked at it but didn’t take it. She wasn’t hungry. She just wanted her mom.

The sky began to turn purple, and the air cooled. Xuxu felt scared. Her tail curled tightly around her legs as she sat down under a big tree near the road. She pressed her tiny hands together as if in prayer, tears welling up in her eyes.

“Mama, come pick me up…” she whimpered. Her voice cracked with sadness.

The cars passed, lights flashing. Every sound made her jump — a barking dog, a honking horn, even a rustling leaf. She remembered how her mom always hugged her whenever she was scared. Luna would stroke her head and whisper softly, “Don’t cry, my baby. Mama’s here.”

Now, those words echoed in her head, and the tears came harder. She called again and again, “Mama! Mama!”

Meanwhile, back in the forest, Luna realized her little one was missing. Panic rushed through her. “Xuxu!” she shouted, running between trees. She sniffed the air and followed faint footprints in the dirt. The forest animals noticed her distress — a parrot squawked to others, and soon, even a kind dog from the nearby farm joined the search.

Luna’s heart raced faster with every minute. “Please, Xuxu, make a sound…” she muttered. Then, from far away, she thought she heard something — a faint cry carried by the wind.

“Mamaaaaa!”

Her ears perked up. That was her baby’s voice! She ran toward it, pushing through the bushes until she reached the edge of the road. And there — under the big tree — sat Xuxu, crying, her fur messy and her eyes red from tears.

“XUXU!” Luna cried out.

Xuxu lifted her head, her face lighting up instantly. “Mama!!!” she squealed, running as fast as her little legs could carry her.

When Luna scooped her up, Xuxu wrapped her tiny arms around her mother’s neck and wouldn’t let go. She buried her face in Luna’s chest, sobbing with relief.

“Oh, my baby,” Luna said softly, rocking her. “You scared me so much. I told you not to wander away.”

“I’m sorry, Mama,” Xuxu sniffled. “I saw something shiny… then I couldn’t find you. I called and called…”

Luna kissed her forehead. “It’s okay now. You’re safe. Mama’s here.”

The people who had been watching smiled warmly. Some even clapped softly. The old woman who had offered the banana wiped a tear and said, “See, even animals know the power of love.”

Luna thanked the woman with a gentle nod, then carried Xuxu home through the quiet forest path. The moon was rising, lighting the way. Xuxu clung tightly to her mother’s fur, finally feeling safe again.

As they reached their little shelter near the big mango tree, Luna set Xuxu down and gave her a small mango to eat. “Here, sweet one. Eat something, then rest.”

Xuxu took a bite, her eyes still wet but her heart calm. “Mama,” she said quietly, “I promise I’ll never go too far again.”

Luna smiled. “Curiosity is good, Xuxu, but you must always remember — the world is big, and you’re still small. If you get lost, just stay calm and wait. I’ll always come for you.”

Xuxu nodded. “I called you… and you came.”

“Yes,” Luna said gently. “Because Mama always hears you.”

That night, as crickets sang and the stars blinked above, Xuxu curled up beside her mother. Her tiny fingers still held onto Luna’s fur, just in case. She felt warm and loved — no more fear, no more tears.

From that day on, every time she went exploring, she looked back often to make sure she could still see her mother. And when she played too far, she remembered that feeling of being alone and scared — and hurried back before she got lost again.

Sometimes, when Luna watched her from afar, she would smile proudly. Her little one was growing wiser, learning from her adventures.

But every evening, without fail, Xuxu would still crawl into her mother’s lap before sleeping and whisper, “Don’t leave me, Mama.”

And Luna would whisper back, “Never, my baby. I’ll always find you — no matter where you are.”

Under the gentle moonlight, their soft breathing blended with the night sounds — the lullaby of love between a mother and her child, a bond unbroken even by distance or fear.

Xuxu’s adventure had taught her something precious: sometimes, getting lost helps you understand how deeply you are loved.

And so, even though she was just a little monkey, she carried a big heart — one that would always call out to her mother, and one that would always be answered.
