The morning sun peeked gently through the curtains, warming the cozy little house where Lala lived with her mom. Normally, Lala would wake up to the sweet sound of her mom humming while preparing breakfast. But today was different — Mom had to go out early for an important errand. Before leaving, she knelt beside Lala’s bed and whispered softly, “Be a good girl today, my little one. I’ll be back soon. Remember to take care of yourself and keep the house tidy, okay?”
Lala blinked her sleepy eyes and nodded with a smile. “Don’t worry, Mom! I can do it all by myself.”
As the door clicked shut behind her mother, Lala stretched her little arms and sat up. The house was quiet except for the faint chirping of birds outside. She took a deep breath and told herself proudly, “Time to show Mom that I’m a big girl now!”
First things first — breakfast! Lala trotted to the kitchen, her small feet pattering against the wooden floor. She opened the refrigerator carefully and took out the milk, eggs, and a slice of bread. She remembered how Mom always cracked eggs so neatly, so she tried to imitate her. Crack! The egg splattered a little too hard, and some shell pieces dropped into the bowl.
“Oops…” she giggled, picking them out one by one. “It’s okay. Mom says mistakes help us learn.”
She whisked the eggs and poured them into a tiny pan. The smell of scrambled eggs filled the kitchen, and Lala felt proud. She even managed to pour herself a glass of milk without spilling — well, almost. Just a tiny splash hit the counter, but she wiped it away quickly.
After breakfast, she washed her dishes carefully, humming a little tune the way Mom always did. She felt so grown-up, standing on her small stool, hands covered in soapy bubbles. The water sparkled in the sunlight, and she laughed when the bubbles tickled her nose.

When she finished cleaning the kitchen, Lala looked around the house. It was tidy, but she noticed some toys scattered on the floor from last night’s playtime. “Oh no,” she said softly, “Mom always says a clean home makes a happy heart.”
So she began her mission — Operation Clean-Up!
She started in the living room, gathering her plush toys one by one. Mr. Bunny, Teddy, and her favorite doll Mimi were all lined up neatly on the couch. “There!” she said proudly. “Now everyone has their place.”
Then she grabbed a tiny cloth and began to dust the shelves. It took some effort because she had to stretch her arms high, but she didn’t give up. Each wipe made the shelves shinier, and Lala beamed with satisfaction.
When she reached the window, she saw that it was smudged with tiny fingerprints — probably hers. So she fetched a clean cloth and gently wiped it until the glass sparkled. The world outside looked so bright and beautiful.
Suddenly, she remembered the plants on the balcony. Mom always told her, “Plants are like friends — they need care, love, and a little water every day.” Lala ran out to check on them. The leaves swayed softly in the breeze, and a few flowers smiled up at her. She filled a small watering can and carefully poured water into each pot.
“Drink up, little plants,” she said sweetly. “Mom will be so happy to see you all fresh and green.”
By noon, Lala had finished cleaning the house from top to bottom. She even folded her blanket neatly and arranged the pillows on her bed. Then she looked around proudly. “Wow, I really did it!” she whispered, clapping her hands.

But all that work made her a bit tired. So she decided to rest for a while. She made herself a cozy little corner near the window, grabbed her storybook, and started reading. The gentle rustling of the pages mixed with the sound of the wind outside. Lala felt peaceful.
After a while, she noticed that the sun had shifted — it was already afternoon. She thought, “Mom will be home soon! I should make the house smell nice.”
She remembered how Mom loved the scent of lavender. Lala found the little spray bottle Mom kept on the table and gently sprayed it around the room. The air filled with a sweet, calming fragrance that made her smile.
Next, she checked the clock and realized it was snack time. She went back to the kitchen, peeled a banana, and poured herself another glass of milk. As she munched happily, she thought about all the things she had done today. She had cooked, cleaned, watered the plants, and even kept herself company — all by herself!
Just then, she heard the familiar sound of footsteps outside. Her heart skipped a beat. “Mom’s home!” she squealed, running to the door.
The door opened, and Mom stepped in, looking tired but smiling. The moment she entered, she froze — the house was spotless! The floor gleamed, the toys were neatly arranged, and the sweet smell of lavender drifted through the air.
“Lala…” Mom said in surprise. “Did you do all this?”
Lala nodded shyly, her cheeks glowing with pride. “Yes, Mommy! I cleaned the house and watered the plants. I even made my own breakfast!”
Mom knelt down and hugged her tightly. “Oh, my sweet little girl. I’m so proud of you. You’ve taken such good care of our home — and yourself!”
Lala’s eyes sparkled as she hugged her mom back. “I wanted to surprise you. I wanted to show you that I can be responsible!”
Mom kissed her forehead. “You certainly did, my dear. You’ve made me the happiest mom in the world.”

They sat together on the couch, and Mom admired how beautiful everything looked. She couldn’t believe how much her little girl had grown. Lala told her about the funny egg accident, the shiny windows, and the talking plants. Mom laughed and listened to every detail, feeling so grateful for her thoughtful daughter.
As the evening sun painted the sky in shades of gold, Lala leaned against her mother’s shoulder. Mom whispered softly, “You know, sweetheart, learning to take care of yourself and your home is one of the most important things in life. It shows love, not just for others, but for yourself too.”
Lala nodded sleepily. “I like helping, Mom. It makes me happy inside.”
Mom smiled. “That’s because love always begins at home.”
Before bedtime, they prepared dinner together. Mom let Lala crack the eggs again — this time, perfectly! They laughed, talked, and shared warm hugs while cooking. The little house glowed with joy, filled with the comforting sound of family love.
When it was time to sleep, Lala snuggled under her clean blanket, feeling proud and peaceful. Mom kissed her goodnight and whispered, “Thank you for being my little helper today.”
As Lala drifted off to sleep, she thought about tomorrow and all the new things she could learn to do by herself. She smiled dreamily and murmured, “Next time, I’ll make lunch for us too.”
Outside, the moon rose quietly, shining softly on the tidy little home — a home full of love, care, and a very special little girl who had learned how to take care of herself and her world.
