The morning started like any other at the CUTIS Animal Sanctuary. The sun had just climbed above the treetops, painting the sky in soft shades of gold. The air smelled fresh — a blend of dew, grass, and the faint sweetness of ripe bananas from the nearby trees. Everything seemed calm… until a certain mischievous baby monkey decided it was the perfect day for an adventure.
CUTIS, the kind caretaker, was busy sweeping the yard when he noticed the baby monkey, Mimi, sitting unusually still on a fence post. Her big round eyes were focused upward, and her tiny hands were fidgeting with excitement. “What are you up to, Mimi?” CUTIS asked, his broom pausing mid-sweep.
Mimi looked back at him, grinning — the kind of grin that always meant trouble. Then, in a blur of motion, she scampered up the fence, leapt onto a tree branch, and climbed higher and higher. CUTIS groaned. “Oh no, not again.”
The other animals seemed to sense something was about to happen. The baby goats, Snowy and Brownie, stopped munching on grass and looked up curiously. Coco, the little puppy, tilted her head and barked softly, as if cheering Mimi on. Even the ducks waddled closer, quacking in confusion.
“Careful, Mimi!” CUTIS called out. But the daring little monkey only chirped happily and climbed higher, swinging from branch to branch. She looked unstoppable — until she reached a particularly tall tree, one that leaned slightly over the pond.
CUTIS’s eyes widened. “Mimi, don’t you dare—”
Before he could finish, Mimi crouched down, wiggled her bottom, and launched herself off the branch.
For a split second, time froze. Her tiny body flew through the air, arms stretched out like a superhero. CUTIS’s jaw dropped. “I wasn’t ready for THIS jump!” he shouted, eyes wide in disbelief.
Then came the splash.
Mimi landed — not gracefully — right into the pond with a huge SPLASH! Water flew everywhere, drenching the ducks, the goats, and even CUTIS himself. Coco barked excitedly, running in circles as if celebrating Mimi’s “perfect dive.”
When Mimi resurfaced, sputtering and blinking, her fluffy fur plastered flat to her body, everyone burst into laughter — well, everyone except Mimi. She looked completely shocked, as if she hadn’t planned that part of the stunt. CUTIS couldn’t help it; he laughed so hard he had to sit down. “Oh, Mimi,” he said between laughs, “you really weren’t ready either, huh?” 😂
Mimi paddled her way to the edge, shivering slightly. CUTIS reached out and helped her up. She clung to his arm like a soaked towel, water dripping everywhere. “That’s what happens when you think you’re Spider-Monkey,” he teased gently.
But Mimi wasn’t done yet. The moment she shook off the water, her eyes sparkled again. CUTIS recognized that look — she was already planning her next jump. “No, no, no!” he said quickly, holding up a hand. “No more flying lessons for today.”

Of course, monkeys don’t always listen. Mimi wriggled out of his hands, scampered up a nearby rock, and began jumping up and down excitedly. CUTIS sighed but followed her, knowing he’d never win this argument. The other animals trailed behind, forming an adorable audience.
Mimi pointed to the tree again, squeaking and motioning as if saying, “Let’s try again — but higher!”
CUTIS laughed. “Higher? You’re unbelievable!”
But instead of climbing the tree, he came up with a safer idea. “Alright,” he said, “how about a small jump, from here to me?” He stretched his arms out. “Come on, I’ll catch you.”
Mimi looked at him, then at the distance, unsure. CUTIS nodded encouragingly. “It’s okay, baby girl. You can do it.”
She took a deep breath — or at least the monkey version of one — crouched, and jumped.
This time, it was perfect. She landed straight into CUTIS’s arms, and everyone cheered. The goats bleated, Coco barked, the ducks flapped their wings, and CUTIS twirled around with Mimi held high. “See? That’s how it’s done!” he said proudly.
But just as things settled, a funny thing happened.
Snowy, the baby goat, decided she wanted to try too. Before CUTIS could react, Snowy climbed onto a rock, bleated loudly, and launched herself forward. She didn’t jump far — just enough to surprise everyone — and landed softly on the grass. CUTIS burst out laughing. “Now you too, Snowy? What is this, a jumping contest?”

One by one, the animals seemed to catch the “jumping fever.” Brownie hopped off a log, Coco leaped through the grass, and even the ducklings made tiny hops near the pond. It turned into a full-blown “animal jumping party.”
CUTIS, still laughing, grabbed his phone and started recording. “Alright everyone,” he said playfully, “this is The Great Animal Jump Championship 2025!”
Mimi was, of course, the star performer. She climbed onto a branch (a lower one this time), waved her tiny arms dramatically, and leapt again — this time landing safely in a pile of hay. Everyone clapped and cheered. She stood up proudly, chest puffed, as if she had just won a gold medal.
CUTIS gave her a small banana trophy — literally just a banana — and said, “For the bravest jumper of the day!” Mimi accepted it with delight, immediately peeling it open and eating it as if she truly were the champion of the world.
As the sun began to dip in the sky, the yard was filled with laughter, playful energy, and the soft golden glow of evening. CUTIS sat down, surrounded by his little friends, still chuckling to himself. “You know,” he said to no one in particular, “I really wasn’t ready for that jump. But I’m glad it happened.”
Because that jump — unexpected and hilarious — reminded him of something important: life is full of surprises. Sometimes, the best moments are the ones you don’t plan. The ones that make you gasp, laugh, and realize how joyful the world can be when you simply live in the moment.

Mimi, now dry and fluffy again, cuddled up next to him. She yawned and rested her tiny head on his shoulder. CUTIS smiled softly and whispered, “You scared me today, little one. But you also made my day.”
The other animals gathered close, settling in for the evening. The ducks floated lazily in the pond, the goats lay down in the hay, and Coco snuggled beside CUTIS’s feet. The farm was peaceful again — the chaos of the day replaced by calm contentment.
As twilight deepened, fireflies began to glow softly in the air, like tiny stars dancing above the grass. CUTIS leaned back, looking at the sky, and laughed quietly once more. “Next time, Mimi,” he said, “please warn me before you turn into a flying monkey.”
Mimi squeaked sleepily, her little hand gripping his sleeve as if to say, “No promises.”
And that’s how another unforgettable day at the CUTIS Animal Sanctuary ended — with laughter, a soaked monkey, and a lesson in embracing the unexpected.
Sometimes life jumps at you before you’re ready — and that’s okay. Because even when you fall, even when you splash into the pond like Mimi did, there’s always a reason to laugh, get back up, and try again.
After all, it’s those unexpected leaps — the ones that make you shout, “I wasn’t ready for THIS jump!” — that make life worth living. 😂🐒💦🌈
