It was a warm afternoon, and the golden light of the sun spread across the little house where Kevin and Sumi often spent their days together. Kevin, a gentle boy with curious eyes, loved taking care of Sumi, the playful baby monkey who had become like a little sibling to him. Their friendship was unusual but so real—Kevin treated Sumi as if she were his little sister, and Sumi adored him in return, always sticking close, climbing onto his shoulders, or tugging at his hands for playtime.
That day, Kevin decided to give Sumi her bottle of milk. The two of them had fallen into a daily routine: Kevin would carefully prepare the milk, warm enough to be soothing but not too hot, then settle down somewhere cozy while Sumi curled up in his lap to drink. It was their quiet time together, a small ritual that strengthened their bond.

Kevin found a comfortable spot near the porch. He sat cross-legged, holding the milk bottle, while Sumi clambered onto him with her little arms reaching eagerly. She squeaked happily, tail curling around his arm as she latched onto the bottle.
“Easy, Sumi,” Kevin chuckled softly, steadying the bottle. “Don’t drink too fast.”
But Sumi was always impatient. She sucked the milk greedily, eyes half closed in bliss, and Kevin couldn’t help but laugh. He leaned back slightly, watching her tiny face relax as she drank, her soft fur brushing against his arm.
Just then, something unexpected happened. The chair Kevin leaned on wasn’t very stable. With Sumi’s weight shifting forward as she wriggled happily, Kevin lost his balance. He tried to grab onto the side of the porch, but before he knew it, the chair tipped backward.
“Whoa—Sumi!” Kevin yelped.

With a clumsy thud, both Kevin and Sumi toppled over together. The milk bottle slipped from Sumi’s mouth, spilling a few drops across Kevin’s shirt. For a moment, everything was chaos—Kevin’s arms instinctively wrapped around Sumi to protect her, while Sumi clung tightly to him, squealing in surprise.
They landed on the soft grass just beside the porch, Kevin flat on his back with Sumi lying squarely on his chest. The world felt still for a moment.
Sumi blinked wide-eyed, then let out a soft little whimper, unsure of what had just happened. Kevin groaned lightly, rubbing the back of his head, but as soon as he looked down and saw Sumi’s face, his worry melted.
“You okay, little one?” he asked gently.
Sumi tilted her head, her big eyes shining with both confusion and relief. Then, as if realizing nothing bad had happened, she gave a cheeky squeak and pressed her tiny face against Kevin’s cheek. The warmth of her fur brushed him, and suddenly both of them burst into laughter—Kevin’s deep and lighthearted, Sumi’s like small chirping giggles.
The spilled bottle lay on the grass beside them, only half-full now. Sumi noticed it quickly. She scrambled off Kevin’s chest, reached for the bottle, and pulled it back toward him with both hands. Kevin sat up slowly, brushing off grass from his shirt, and chuckled again.
“You still want your milk, huh?” he teased.
Sumi nodded eagerly, her tail flicking back and forth. Kevin shook his head, smiling, and held the bottle steady while Sumi resumed her drinking. This time, Kevin made sure to stay firmly seated on the ground instead of the wobbly chair.
As Sumi drank, Kevin thought about how much he loved these little moments. Sure, accidents happened—like falling together just now—but they were always filled with laughter afterward. To him, it was more than just giving Sumi milk. It was about trust. Even when they fell, Sumi never let go of him, and Kevin never failed to keep her safe.
After finishing her milk, Sumi gave a satisfied little burp and wiped her mouth with the back of her tiny hand. Kevin laughed so hard that Sumi looked at him, tilting her head as if to ask what was funny. That only made Kevin laugh harder. He picked her up gently and swung her onto his shoulder.
“You, Sumi, are the funniest, hungriest little monkey I’ve ever met,” he said warmly.
The two of them then went for a little walk around the yard. Sumi perched on Kevin’s shoulder, patting his head every now and then, while Kevin carried the empty milk bottle in his other hand. The sun was dipping lower, painting the sky orange, and the air smelled faintly of flowers from the nearby garden.
Kevin decided to sit by the big tree at the edge of the yard. He leaned back against its trunk, feeling the cool bark against his back, while Sumi nestled into his lap. For a while, they just sat together, quiet and calm, enjoying the breeze.
Then, suddenly, Sumi began to mimic what had happened earlier. She rocked her body dramatically, pretending to fall off Kevin’s lap. Kevin caught her immediately, and she squealed with laughter, clearly remembering their tumble.
“Oh, you think that was funny, do you?” Kevin said playfully.
Sumi clapped her little hands, proud of herself. Kevin shook his head, pretending to scold her, but he couldn’t hide his grin. Their earlier fall had turned into a game now. Over and over, Sumi leaned back as if falling, and every time Kevin caught her, making exaggerated faces that sent her into fits of giggles.
The yard echoed with their laughter until the sun finally dipped beyond the horizon. Kevin realized how precious this day had been. Falling down together might have looked like an accident, but to them, it was just another memory—another story to laugh about later.
When it was time to go inside, Kevin carried Sumi in his arms, rocking her gently as if she were still drinking milk. She had grown sleepy after her bottle and their games, her eyelids drooping as she nestled against his chest. Kevin kissed the top of her little head softly and whispered, “Goodnight, Sumi. Thanks for always making life fun.”
Inside the house, he laid her down in her soft blanket bed. Sumi curled up instantly, letting out a soft sigh before drifting into sleep. Kevin sat beside her for a few moments, just watching her breathe peacefully.
He thought back to their tumble—how quickly it had happened, and how quickly they had laughed it off. It reminded him of something important: life with Sumi wasn’t about avoiding every fall or mistake. It was about holding onto each other through them, turning even clumsy accidents into stories filled with warmth.
As Kevin finally lay down to rest, he knew he wouldn’t forget this day anytime soon. Tomorrow would bring new adventures, new games, and maybe even another silly fall. But one thing was certain: no matter what happened, he and Sumi would always share their milk, their laughter, and their unshakable bond.
