Bibi was practically bouncing off the walls with excitement. Her curly tail wagged so fast it was a blur, and her golden fur glistened in the sunlight as she ran from one end of the backyard to the other, imagining the splashes and fun that awaited. Today was the day—the swimming pool was coming!
For weeks, Bibi had heard her family talk about the new pool. At first, she didn’t understand what all the fuss was about. She had her water bowl, the garden hose, and her favorite blue kiddie pool. But when she overheard her human brother, Max, say, “It’s going to be big enough for all of us—even Bibi!”—she knew something amazing was on its way.

The morning began early. Bibi was up before sunrise, pacing near the kitchen window, peering out into the backyard. The grass was still wet with dew, and the sky was tinged with a soft pink. Birds chirped cheerfully, but nothing could match the joy bubbling inside her. She rushed over to wake Max, jumping onto his bed and licking his face furiously.
“Okay, okay, Bibi! I’m up!” Max laughed, rubbing sleep from his eyes.
After breakfast, the sound of a truck backing into the driveway sent Bibi into a frenzy. She barked, spun in circles, and tried to peek out the window. “They’re here! They’re here!” she seemed to say, her whole body quivering with excitement.

Outside, workers began unloading tools and equipment. A large roll of blue vinyl, some pipes, and various parts were placed neatly in the backyard. Bibi watched with wide eyes, sniffing curiously at everything. She wanted to help so badly, but her family gently guided her to the porch so she wouldn’t get in the way.
Still, she kept a close eye on the workers, her head tilting from side to side as they dug and measured. Max sat next to her, explaining every step as if she understood every word. And in her way, she did. She understood that something new, fun, and wet was coming—and it had her name written all over it.
As the hole grew deeper, Bibi’s excitement only intensified. She let out tiny whines of anticipation and wiggled her nose at the smell of freshly dug earth. She imagined herself diving into the sparkling water, paddling alongside Max, and chasing after floating toys. The thought alone made her leap up and bark with joy.

Midway through the afternoon, the frame was in place, and the workers began laying the pool liner. Bibi couldn’t stop her tail from thumping the porch floor as she watched. The liner was a bright ocean blue, and to her, it looked like a magical lake had landed right in her backyard.
By the end of the day, the structure was complete. “We’ll start filling it tomorrow,” one of the workers said, packing up his tools.
Bibi’s ears drooped slightly—tomorrow? She’d waited all day! But Max hugged her gently and whispered, “Just one more night, girl. Then we’ll swim together.”

That night, Bibi could hardly sleep. She lay on her bed, twitching in her dreams, her paws paddling through imaginary water. In her dream, she leapt from a diving board with grace, did a perfect splash, and swam faster than any dog in the neighborhood.
When morning came, Bibi was ready. She bolted outside, dragging her leash behind her. The hose was running, and water was slowly filling the pool. She stood near the edge, her reflection shimmering back at her. The water looked so inviting! But she waited patiently, remembering Max’s words.
By noon, the pool was nearly full. Bibi couldn’t sit still. She ran in circles, barked excitedly, and even dipped one paw into the water. Cool! Refreshing! Perfect!
Then finally, the moment came.
Max changed into his swimsuit, grabbed Bibi’s favorite floating duck toy, and called her over. “Come on, girl! Let’s go swimming!”

Without hesitation, Bibi leapt into the water with a mighty splash. She surfaced with a happy bark, her ears slicked back and her eyes sparkling. She dog-paddled effortlessly, tail swishing behind her like a rudder. Max laughed and joined her, and together they splashed, played, and swam in joyful circles.
Bibi chased the floating duck, dove underwater (well, half of her did), and even tried balancing on a pool noodle. She was a natural! Her golden fur glowed in the sunlight, and the water droplets sparkled like diamonds around her.
The rest of the family joined in, and soon the backyard echoed with laughter, splashes, and the occasional bark of joy. For hours, they swam and played, taking breaks only for icy lemonade and dog treats.

That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Bibi lay on a towel beside Max, both of them exhausted and happy. Her fur was damp, her eyes were half-closed, and her heart was full.
“I think this might be the best day ever,” Max said, scratching behind her ears.
Bibi let out a contented sigh and gave his hand a gentle lick. She couldn’t agree more.
From that day on, the pool became their favorite hangout spot. Rain or shine, Bibi would trot out to the backyard, wagging her tail, hoping for a swim. Sometimes she swam alone, chasing imaginary fish or practicing her paddle. Other times, neighbors and friends came by to join the fun, always amazed at how skilled Bibi was in the water.
She even earned a new nickname—Bibi the Water Queen.
Every splash reminded her of that first day, of the waiting and the excitement, and how it had all been worth it. Because now, she had a place where she could swim, play, and make memories with her favorite humans.
And Bibi never stopped being excited about it.
