Title: Bibi Prepares the Ingredients and Asks Uncle Phong to Cook When He Sees It’s Raining Heavily!

It was a peaceful afternoon in the countryside. Birds chirped lazily in the trees, and the breeze carried the sweet scent of ripening fruit from the nearby orchard. Bibi, a cheerful and energetic little monkey, had spent the morning collecting fresh vegetables and herbs from the garden. Tomatoes, lemongrass, chili, basil, and long beans—everything was picked with care and excitement. Bibi had a plan: he wanted to surprise Uncle Phong with a delicious home-cooked meal.

Bibi had recently started learning about cooking and had been watching Uncle Phong every time he made meals in the outdoor kitchen. He was fascinated by the way Uncle Phong chopped vegetables so quickly, how he balanced flavors just right, and how he always made everyone smile when they ate. Today, Bibi wanted to do something nice in return.

As Bibi laid out the ingredients on a large wooden tray under the shaded porch, the sky began to change. Clouds rolled in slowly, dark and heavy, like giant gray pillows. The wind picked up, causing the banana trees to sway and rustle. Bibi looked up and paused. “Uh-oh,” he muttered to himself, his little eyes watching the sky anxiously.

Just as he finished peeling garlic and arranging the spices in tiny bowls, the first drops of rain started to fall. At first, it was gentle, but within minutes, the rain turned into a heavy downpour. The sound of water hitting the tin roof was loud and steady. Bibi’s tail twitched nervously. Cooking outside was no longer possible.

He darted across the yard, careful not to slip on the wet stones, and ran into the house calling out, “Uncle Phong! Uncle Phong! It’s raining so much! I need your help!”

Uncle Phong, who was relaxing in the living room with a book, looked up with a smile. “What’s the matter, Bibi?”

“I prepared everything for lunch,” Bibi said proudly, “but now it’s raining and I don’t know how to cook it inside! Can you help me?”

Uncle Phong chuckled warmly and followed Bibi to the porch. He was touched by the little monkey’s efforts. “You did all this by yourself?” he asked in amazement as he looked over the tray full of fresh vegetables, spices, and herbs.

Bibi nodded. “Yes! I wanted to surprise you. But I don’t know how to make it taste good like you do.”

“Don’t worry, Bibi,” Uncle Phong said, patting him on the head. “We’ll cook together. Rain or no rain, this will be fun!”

The two moved everything into the indoor kitchen. Uncle Phong washed his hands, tied an apron around his waist, and began giving Bibi gentle instructions. “Let’s start with the oil. Pour just a little into the pan… That’s it. Now turn on the stove.”

Bibi’s eyes sparkled as he watched the flame come to life under the pan. The oil sizzled as he added the garlic, and the kitchen began to smell delicious. Uncle Phong guided him to add onions next, then the chopped lemongrass and chili. The scent was spicy and rich.

“Now add the vegetables,” said Uncle Phong, pointing to the tray.

Together, they stirred and sautéed. Uncle Phong showed Bibi how to add just the right amount of fish sauce, sugar, and salt. As the dish cooked, they tasted it, adjusted the seasoning, and smiled with satisfaction. Outside, the rain continued to fall, but inside, the kitchen was warm and full of laughter.

While the food simmered, Bibi set the table. He chose his favorite bowls and placed little banana leaves on each plate as decoration. He even folded napkins the way he had seen in a restaurant once.

Finally, it was time to eat. Uncle Phong served the steaming stir-fried vegetables over a bed of jasmine rice. The colors were vibrant, the aroma irresistible. Bibi took a bite and beamed. “Mmm! This is so yummy! We make a great team!”

Uncle Phong grinned. “You did most of the work, Bibi. I’m very proud of you.”

As they ate, the sound of rain continued to echo in the background, but it no longer felt gloomy. It felt peaceful, like the perfect soundtrack to a cozy meal made with love and teamwork

After lunch, Bibi helped wash the dishes and put everything away. Then he curled up in a hammock with a full belly and a happy heart. Uncle Phong brought him a warm towel to dry his little feet and sat beside him.

“You know,” Uncle Phong said gently, “cooking is more than just food. It’s about care, patience, and sharing. Today, you showed me all of that.”

Bibi yawned, his eyes starting to close. “I want to cook with you every day, Uncle.”

Uncle Phong chuckled softly. “We’ll make that happen.”

Outside, the rain slowly began to ease, and the sun peeked through the clouds, casting a soft golden glow on the wet garden. But inside, the love and warmth between Bibi and Uncle Phong were already shining brightly.

From that day forward, whenever it rained heavily, Bibi would gather ingredients and wait eagerly for Uncle Phong. Cooking became their special rainy-day tradition—one filled with laughter, learning, and lots of delicious meals.
