It was a bright, cheerful Saturday morning when Aza woke up buzzing with excitement. Today was no ordinary day—it was the day of her mini pool party! But what made it even more special was that her extended family, whom she hadn’t seen in months, would be coming over. Cousins, aunts, uncles, and even her grandparents were all gathering at her house for a day filled with splashes, laughter, and togetherness.
The sun had barely risen when Aza hopped out of bed and ran to her window. The small inflatable pool her dad had set up the night before was glistening under the early morning light. Rainbow-colored floaties bobbed gently on the surface, and a table nearby was already laid out with bright plates, napkins, and a huge jug of lemonade.
“Aza, come help me with the snacks!” called her mom from the kitchen.

Aza dashed down the stairs. Together, they arranged bowls of popcorn, chips, cut-up fruit, and cupcakes topped with tiny umbrellas. Her dad was outside inflating a second pool—this one even had a little slide attached to it! Aza giggled with joy. This was going to be the best day ever.
Around noon, the first guests began to arrive. Her Uncle Joe and Auntie Mari came carrying big trays of homemade samosas and fried chicken. Aza’s heart leaped when she saw her cousins, Mia and Jordan, hop out of the car, already wearing their swimsuits under their clothes.
“Aza!!” Mia squealed, running up to her. They hugged tightly and immediately started chattering about all the things they were going to do.
Soon, more family members trickled in. Grandpa Bob and Grandma Ellie arrived with a cooler full of ice cream bars. Aunt Rosa brought a big fruit punch bowl, and Uncle Theo carried a Bluetooth speaker to blast some fun music. The backyard transformed into a colorful, buzzing celebration.

Before jumping into the pool, everyone gathered for a quick family picture. Aza’s mom clicked the photo, capturing the bright smiles, silly sunglasses, and excitement in everyone’s eyes.
“Alright, everyone! Pool time!” Aza’s dad announced.
With a collective cheer, the kids raced toward the water. Aza cannonballed into the pool, sending a big splash that made everyone laugh. Mia and Jordan followed, splashing around and playing a wild game of water tag. Even the adults got into the spirit, dipping their toes in or sitting by the edge with their feet in the water, chatting and enjoying the sunny day.
One of Aza’s favorite parts was the mini water games they played. Her dad organized a “duck race,” where they each picked a rubber duck and had to blow it across the pool without using their hands. It was hilarious to watch Uncle Joe huff and puff so hard that he ended up falling face-first into the pool! Everyone burst into laughter, including Uncle Joe, who playfully splashed water at anyone within reach.

Later, they set up a limbo stick over the grass. Aza’s little brother, Sam, who was only four, stole the show by wriggling under the stick with surprising flexibility. Grandpa Bob even gave it a try, much to everyone’s amusement, though he didn’t make it very far before toppling over, laughing as hard as the kids.
By mid-afternoon, the sun was high and hot, and everyone needed a snack break. They gathered around the food table, piling their plates high. Aza loved seeing everyone sitting together, sharing stories and catching up. Grandma Ellie told a funny tale from her childhood about a time she and her siblings accidentally flooded their backyard trying to make their own “pool” with a garden hose.
“Guess backyard pools run in the family!” joked Uncle Theo, raising his lemonade cup in a toast.
After eating, they brought out the cupcakes. Aza’s mom surprised everyone by placing a candle in one for Aza to blow out, celebrating the beginning of summer break. Aza made a silent wish before blowing out the candle: I wish we could have more days like this.
The fun didn’t stop there. Aza’s dad had planned a “treasure hunt” game. He hid little toys and treats around the yard and gave the kids clues to find them. They ran around with squeals and shouts of joy, digging behind bushes, peeking under chairs, and working together to find the hidden prizes.

As the sun began to dip toward the horizon, the pool party slowly wound down. The kids wrapped themselves in colorful towels, shivering slightly as the warm day turned into a cooler evening. Parents packed up, and leftovers were divided into containers to take home.
Before everyone left, Aza’s family gathered once more, sitting in a big circle on the grass. Grandma Ellie suggested they share what their favorite part of the day was.
“My favorite part was the duck race!” shouted Jordan.
“I loved the treasure hunt!” Mia chimed in.
“Seeing all of you again,” said Grandpa Bob warmly, “was the best part for me.”
When it was Aza’s turn, she thought for a second and said, “My favorite part was everything! I loved seeing all of you, playing, laughing, and just being together.”
There was a collective “aww” as everyone smiled and hugged her.
As the cars pulled away and the backyard grew quiet again, Aza stood by the window, watching the last of her family drive off. She felt a warm glow inside her chest. Today wasn’t just about swimming or snacks; it was about being surrounded by the people she loved. It had been a day full of joy, silly moments, and memories she would treasure forever.

Her mom came up behind her and wrapped her in a hug. “Did you have fun, sweetheart?”
“The best,” Aza said, smiling.
“Maybe we can do it again next month,” her mom suggested with a wink.
Aza’s eyes lit up. “Yes, please!”
As she got ready for bed that night, Aza thought about how lucky she was. Family was everything—whether they were near or far, they were always there for the moments that mattered most. And sometimes, all it took was a mini pool party to remind her just how special that bond was.
