The sun was just beginning to peek through the curtains when Lala awoke. She stretched her little arms, rubbed her eyes, and smiled brightly. Today was a very important day—Mom had asked her to take care of Bon, their fluffy little puppy, while she ran some errands in town. Lala felt proud, because Mom trusted her with such a big responsibility.
“Lala,” Mom had said earlier that morning, “I’ll be gone for a few hours. Please take good care of Bon. Make sure he eats, drinks water, and doesn’t get into trouble. Can you do that?”
Lala’s chest puffed out with determination. “Yes, Mom! I’ll take care of Bon like you do. You can count on me!”
Mom kissed her forehead and ruffled her hair. “That’s my sweet girl. Be kind, be patient, and keep an eye on him. He loves you very much.”
And with that, Mom left, leaving Lala and Bon together in the quiet, cozy house.
A morning full of responsibility
Bon wagged his tiny tail as if he knew something exciting was about to happen. His big brown eyes sparkled with energy, and his soft ears perked up at every sound.
Lala knelt down and stroked his fur. “Okay, Bon, it’s just you and me today! Let’s be good and make Mom proud.”
The first thing she remembered was breakfast. She carefully scooped some kibble into Bon’s bowl, just like Mom always did, and added a little warm water to soften it. Bon barked happily and began munching away. Lala giggled.
“Don’t eat too fast, Bon! You’ll get hiccups.”
Sure enough, Bon gobbled so quickly that he let out a tiny hiccup. Lala laughed even harder and gently patted his back. “See? I told you!”
After breakfast, Lala filled his water bowl, making sure it wasn’t too full to spill. She felt so grown-up doing this all by herself.

Playtime adventures
Once Bon finished eating, his energy doubled. He bounced around the living room, barking playfully, his paws skidding on the wooden floor.
Lala picked up his favorite toy—a squeaky ball—and tossed it gently across the room. Bon darted after it, grabbed it in his mouth, and pranced back proudly.
“Good boy, Bon!” Lala clapped her hands. “You’re the fastest puppy in the world!”
They played fetch for a while until Bon flopped onto the rug, panting happily. Lala sat beside him, stroking his fur. She felt a special bond with him. Taking care of Bon wasn’t just a job; it was fun, too.
But then Lala remembered Mom’s words: “Keep an eye on him.” Puppies could get into trouble quickly.
Sure enough, when she turned her head for a moment, Bon started nibbling on the corner of one of Mom’s slippers.
“Oh no, Bon!” Lala said, hurrying over. “That’s not a toy!”
She gently took the slipper away and replaced it with a chew toy. “Here, chew this instead. It’s safe for you.”
Bon wagged his tail and happily gnawed on the toy instead. Lala sighed in relief. “Whew, that was close. Mom would not be happy if her slippers had holes!
An unexpected challenge
Around midday, Lala decided it was time to take Bon outside for a little walk in the garden. She carefully clipped his leash on, just like she’d seen Mom do, and opened the back door.
The garden was full of sunshine, butterflies, and the sweet smell of flowers. Bon immediately ran toward the grass, sniffing everything with curiosity.
Lala followed closely, holding the leash firmly. She let him explore but kept him safe. “Stay close, Bon. Don’t go too far.”
But then, Bon spotted a butterfly fluttering nearby. His eyes widened, his tail wagged furiously, and—zoom!—he dashed after it, tugging the leash so suddenly that Lala almost lost her balance.
“Bon, wait!” she cried, running after him.
The puppy chased the butterfly in circles until finally, the butterfly soared out of reach. Bon stopped, panting, while Lala caught up, slightly out of breath. She crouched down, holding him close.
“You silly pup! You can’t catch butterflies. But it’s okay—I know it looked fun.” She scratched his ear, and Bon licked her cheek in apology.
Lala realized that taking care of Bon wasn’t always easy. He had so much energy and curiosity. But she also realized that with patience and love, she could guide him.

Quiet time together
After their little garden adventure, Lala brought Bon inside. Both of them were tired from running around. She poured him a small bowl of fresh water and then settled down on the couch with him.
Bon curled up beside her, his warm little body pressed against her lap. His breathing slowed, and soon he was drifting into a nap. Lala stroked his fur gently, humming softly.
As she sat there, Lala thought about how much she loved Bon. He wasn’t just a pet—he was part of the family. And today, she realized just how much responsibility came with caring for him. She felt proud of herself for being patient, for remembering his meals, for keeping him safe, and for giving him love.
“I think Mom will be proud of us, Bon,” she whispered.
Bon wagged his tail in his sleep, as if agreeing.
Mom comes home
After a few hours, the sound of the front door opening made Bon’s ears perk up. He jumped off the couch, tail wagging furiously, and bounded toward the door.
“Mom!” Lala shouted excitedly, running after him.
Mom knelt down as Bon leapt into her arms, showering her with puppy kisses. “Oh, I missed you too, Bon!” she laughed. Then she looked at Lala. “And how was my little helper today?”
Lala beamed. “I took care of Bon all day, just like you said! I gave him breakfast, played with him, stopped him from chewing your slipper, and even took him to the garden. He chased a butterfly, but I held on tight to the leash. And then we rested together. He was such a good boy!”
Mom’s eyes softened with pride. She pulled Lala into a warm hug. “I knew you could do it. You were so responsible, sweetheart. Thank you for taking such special care of Bon. I’m very proud of you.”
Lala felt her heart swell with happiness. She had proved that she could handle responsibility. And most importantly, she had given Bon all the love and care he needed while Mom was away.
A promise for the future
That evening, as the family gathered for dinner, Bon sat happily under the table, wagging his tail. Lala couldn’t stop smiling.
“Mom,” she said softly, “can I help take care of Bon every day? Not just today, but always?”
Mom reached over and squeezed her hand. “Of course, Lala. Bon belongs to all of us, and he loves you very much. You’ll always be part of his care.”
Lala nodded eagerly. She looked at Bon, who tilted his head as if he understood. “I promise I’ll always take good care of you, Bon,” she whispered.
And from the way Bon curled up at her feet, content and happy, it was clear that he believed her.
That day became one of Lala’s favorite memories. It wasn’t just about playing with Bon—it was about learning patience, kindness, and responsibility. She discovered that even small acts, like filling his water bowl or guiding him away from trouble, were important.
Most of all, she realized that love and care could make a little puppy’s world safe, happy, and full of joy.
And from that day on, whenever Mom needed help, Lala was always ready. Because nothing made her prouder than knowing she could obediently take special care of Bon.
