It was a calm morning in the little countryside house where CUTIS and the baby monkey lived with Mom. Sunlight streamed through the bamboo curtains, and the gentle chirping of birds outside made everything feel peaceful. CUTIS was busy arranging his toy blocks on the living room floor, while the baby monkey sat nearby munching on a piece of banana, tail swishing happily.
Nothing in the air suggested that the day would bring chaos. But as anyone who has lived with animals and children knows, peace rarely lasts long.
The First Sign of Trouble
It started with a sound — a faint drip… drip… drip.
At first, CUTIS thought it was the baby monkey playing with water again. He turned his head and frowned.
“Hey, Lu, stop wasting water!” CUTIS scolded, using the monkey’s nickname.
But the baby monkey only looked up with wide, innocent eyes, banana still in his mouth. He pointed upward.
That’s when CUTIS noticed something strange: a small wet spot slowly spreading across the ceiling. The dripping sound grew louder, followed by a faint creaking noise.
“Uh-oh,” CUTIS whispered.
The Sudden Splash
Before he could call Mom, there was a loud CRACK! and a gush of water came pouring down from the ceiling — straight onto the living room rug.
“Eeeek! Eeeeek!” the baby monkey screeched, jumping into CUTIS’s lap. Both of them were instantly soaked, and their toys floated away in little streams across the floor.
CUTIS’s mind raced. What do we do? What do we do?!
He ran toward the kitchen to grab a bucket, with the baby monkey clinging to his shoulder like a furry backpack. In his hurry, he slipped on the wet tiles and almost fell, causing the monkey to squeal louder.
“This is not good,” CUTIS muttered, setting the bucket under the leak.

The Mystery Deepens
Mom rushed in, eyes wide. “What happened here?!”
“We don’t know!” CUTIS said quickly. “One minute it was quiet, then water started falling from the roof!”
The baby monkey added his own report — rapid chattering and hand gestures pointing upstairs.
Mom sighed and grabbed a mop. “Stay here and don’t touch anything. I’ll go check the upper floor.”
CUTIS nodded, though he was curious. As soon as Mom left, he whispered to the baby monkey, “Come on, let’s see what’s going on.”
The Forbidden Upstairs Mission
Quietly, they tiptoed up the stairs. Water dripped steadily from somewhere in the hallway. They followed the sound to the storage room door — which was slightly open.
CUTIS pushed it, and they froze.
Inside, one of the big water jugs had tipped over, spilling across the floor. But that wasn’t the only surprise. In the corner, a small window was open, letting in a strong breeze that had knocked over a pile of boxes. Some of the boxes were still shifting, as though something was moving inside them.
CUTIS gulped. “Lu… do you think… maybe… a rat?”
The baby monkey clung tighter to his arm.
They stood there in silence, staring at the trembling box. And then — BANG! — it fell over, revealing a soaked, very guilty-looking neighborhood cat.

The Cat’s Secret Adventure
The cat meowed pitifully, clearly confused by the chaos it had caused. CUTIS realized what happened: the cat must have sneaked in through the open window during the night, knocked over the water jug while exploring, and caused the whole mess downstairs.
But explaining this to Mom wouldn’t be easy — especially because she had strictly forbidden animals in the storage room.
The baby monkey seemed torn between chasing the cat and hugging it. CUTIS decided quickly. “Okay, Lu. We help the cat out quietly before Mom finds out.”
The Great Escape Plan
The problem? The cat didn’t want to leave. It sat down and began licking its wet fur, completely ignoring CUTIS’s shooing gestures.
CUTIS tried luring it with some leftover bread from his pocket, but the baby monkey snatched the bread for himself. They ended up in a small tug-of-war until the cat, out of curiosity, padded over to see what the fuss was about.
This gave CUTIS an idea. He dangled the bread toward the window, slowly guiding the cat’s attention. The baby monkey followed too, suspicious but still chewing.
With a little teamwork — and a lot of clumsy coordination — they managed to get the cat to jump out of the window and onto the neighbor’s fence.
Mom’s Return
They had just closed the window when Mom appeared in the doorway. She looked around at the mess — wet floor, tipped boxes, and the half-empty water jug.
“What on earth…” she began.
CUTIS swallowed. The baby monkey hid behind his legs.
“It was… um… an unexpected incident,” CUTIS said slowly. “But we handled it.”
Mom raised an eyebrow. “Handled it? Then why does the living room look like a swimming pool?”
CUTIS quickly told her about the water jug, carefully leaving out the cat part. The baby monkey nodded along, adding dramatic squeaks for effect.
Cleaning Time
Mom sighed but didn’t seem too angry. “Accidents happen. But now, both of you are going to help clean this up.”
And so began the long cleaning mission. CUTIS mopped the living room floor while the baby monkey attempted to “help” by wiping the table — which mostly meant smearing water around. They wrung out towels, carried buckets outside, and tried not to slip again.
By the end of it, the house was dry, the furniture back in place, and everyone was exhausted. CUTIS collapsed on the couch, the baby monkey curled up beside him.
The Final Twist
Just when they thought the day’s drama was over, there was a scratch-scratch-scratch sound at the window.
CUTIS sat up. The baby monkey’s eyes went wide. Outside, the same cat was sitting on the fence… with another cat beside it. Both stared inside as if expecting dinner.
CUTIS groaned. “Oh no… Lu, I think this isn’t over.”
The baby monkey tilted his head, then burst into delighted squeaks. He hopped off the couch and ran to the window, clearly ready for round two of unexpected incidents.
And so, what began as a peaceful morning turned into a day full of mystery, chaos, and soaking wet surprises. For CUTIS and the baby monkey, it was just another reminder that in their house, you never know what will happen next.
