The sun was shining warmly over the peaceful countryside, casting golden rays across the rolling hills and lively fields. Birds chirped happily in the trees, and a gentle breeze swayed the tall grasses. At the heart of this calm and cheerful scene was a small farm where laughter, kindness, and love were always in full bloom.
Lala, the smart and playful little monkey, was having a wonderful morning. She had just finished helping Bon carry vegetables from the garden and was now climbing trees, hopping around with joy. Her big, curious eyes sparkled as she watched butterflies flutter past her, and her tail swung with every giggle she made.
Nearby, Thuy—the gentle and kind-hearted young woman who loved Lala like family—was quietly preparing something behind the wooden house. She had been working on it for several days, keeping everything secret. She had been watching Lala closely and had noticed how much the little monkey loved colors, shiny things, and soft toys.
Thuy wanted to do something special for Lala—not because it was a holiday or birthday, but simply because she loved her. She believed that sometimes the best gifts are the unexpected ones, filled with thought and care.
She had spent hours creating a hand-sewn pouch made from soft, colorful fabric. The pouch had little stitched bananas, flowers, and even a tiny version of Lala embroidered on the front. Inside, she placed a small, mirror-like pendant, a bright ribbon, and a sweet-smelling flower bracelet. Everything about it was chosen with Lala’s favorite things in mind.
Meanwhile, Lala was still unaware. She was too busy balancing on a fence post, trying to impress Bon with her silly tricks. Bon clapped and laughed, “Lala! You’re the best performer on the farm!”

Thuy peeked around the corner, smiling to herself. “Now’s the perfect time,” she whispered.
She quietly walked up to the wooden bench under the big mango tree where Lala usually napped in the afternoons. She gently placed the gift pouch on the bench, right next to Lala’s favorite resting pillow. Then, she tiptoed back inside and watched from the window, excitement bubbling inside her.
Not long after, Lala, a little tired from all the playing, strolled over to her resting spot. But as she climbed onto the bench, she froze.
“What’s this?” she chirped curiously, spotting the colorful pouch.
She looked around with wide eyes. No one was near. Bon was still chasing a dragonfly by the pond, and Thuy was nowhere to be seen. Lala touched the pouch gently with her fingers, then sniffed it. A sweet scent filled her nose, and her face lit up with delight.
Carefully, she opened it. First, the mirror pendant caught her eye. She picked it up and looked at herself in it. Her reflection made her giggle.
“Pretty monkey!” she said to herself.
Next, she pulled out the ribbon. It was bright red with golden dots, her absolute favorite! She quickly tied it around her wrist like a bracelet, then jumped with joy. Lastly, the flower bracelet made her pause. It was made of small pink and yellow blooms, woven carefully with love.
Lala looked around again and finally spotted Thuy at the window, peeking and smiling. Realization hit her.

“Thuy!” she called out in surprise.
Thuy walked out slowly, trying to act casual. “Did someone find a little surprise?”
Lala jumped up and down, holding the pouch close to her heart. “Thuy! This is for me?”
“Yes, it’s for you,” Thuy said with a soft laugh. “I made it because I love how much joy you bring to everyone. I wanted you to have something special too.”
Lala didn’t know what to say. Her heart felt warm and full. She hugged Thuy tightly, wrapping her tiny arms around her neck.
“Thank you, thank you!” she squealed.
Bon, curious now, came running over. “What’s happening? What’s that, Lala?”
Lala proudly showed off her pouch, her ribbon, and the mirror. Bon clapped in admiration. “Wow! That’s the coolest gift ever!”
Thuy sat down with them under the mango tree. “Lala has been helping us all so much lately—helping Bon carry vegetables, cleaning the farm, and even cheering up everyone when they’re sad. I thought it was time she received a little thank-you.”
Lala nodded proudly, still holding the pouch close. “I love it so much! I will keep it safe forever!”

The rest of the afternoon turned into a celebration. Bon found some mangoes and shared them with everyone. Lala performed a funny dance with her new ribbon, spinning and jumping, making everyone laugh. Even the chickens gathered nearby, pecking curiously at the shiny mirror.
As the sun began to set, coloring the sky in soft orange and pink, Lala lay on the bench under the tree, her new treasures beside her. She looked at Thuy and Bon, smiling softly.
“This was the best day,” she whispered.
Thuy brushed Lala’s fur gently. “You deserve it, Lala. You remind us every day how joy can come in the smallest moments.”
From that day on, Lala carried the pouch with her wherever she went. Whether she was helping in the garden, going on little adventures with Bon, or just lying under the sky watching the clouds, the pouch was always with her. It wasn’t just a gift—it was a symbol of love, friendship, and appreciation.
And although Lala would go on to receive other presents in her life, nothing ever surprised or delighted her quite like that unexpected gift from Thuy—the one that came straight from the heart. 💝🐒🌸
