Deep inside a quiet forest clearing, where the tall trees curved like umbrellas and the morning sun painted everything with golden light, lived a cheerful little monkey named Miko. Miko was known throughout the forest as the monkey who never stopped exploring. Every day, he wandered from tree to tree, poking his nose into hollow logs, following butterflies, and searching for new adventures.
But on this particular morning, Miko’s curiosity was even stronger than usual. He had heard from his friends that there was a new path on the west side of the forest—a place none of the little monkeys had ever gone before. And the moment he heard it, he knew he had to see it for himself.

“Don’t go too far, Miko!” his mother called from a branch high above.
“I’ll be fine, Mama! I’ll be back before breakfast!” Miko promised, waving with enthusiasm.
With that, he scampered down the tree, crossed a small stream, and headed toward the mysterious west side of the forest.

The New Path
The deeper he walked, the stranger the forest seemed. The trees were thicker, the vines hung lower, and the ground felt soft beneath his tiny feet. Birds chirped above his head, but even they sounded different—a little more echo, a little more mystery.
Miko loved it.
“This is amazing!” he whispered to himself as he hopped over a fallen log.
Then, just a few steps away, he noticed something on the ground—a wide area without grass, just smooth brown earth. At first, Miko thought it was just dirt. But the way it glistened in the sunlight made him pause.
He leaned forward. “Hmm… what’s this?”
He poked it lightly with a stick. The stick sank—slowly, but definitely.
“That’s strange…”
But before he could examine it more carefully, a butterfly fluttered past him—a bright yellow one, dancing in the air like a tiny sun.
“Oh! Wait for me!” Miko laughed, jumping after it.
He forgot about the strange ground. He forgot about the stick. He forgot about everything except the butterfly.
And that’s when it happened.

The Fall
One quick step—
one light jump—
and squish!
Miko’s foot sank deep into the soft earth.
“Ah!” he squeaked, flailing his arms as the ground gave way.
Before he understood what was happening, he slipped forward and tumbled—right into a mud pit!
The mud was cold and sticky, swallowing him halfway as he tried to push himself up.
“Oh no… oh no… oh no!” Miko panicked, his little hands sliding in the slippery mud. “This is bad!”
He struggled to stand, but his feet kept sinking.
He wasn’t hurt—but he was completely stuck, dripping from head to toe in dark brown mud. His fluffy fur was now heavy and flat, and even his tail was coated like a muddy rope.
“What a poor little monkey…” he whispered to himself, feeling embarrassed and helpless.
Calling for Help
Miko tried to climb out, but the mud pit was deeper than it looked. Every time he grabbed the edge, it crumbled and slid back into the pit.
“This is not good…” he whimpered. “Mama! Mama!”
But his voice was small in the giant forest.
A dragonfly zipped past without noticing him. A frog croaked somewhere nearby. And the butterfly he had been chasing was now far, far away.
Miko felt a lump in his throat. “I should’ve listened… I should’ve been more careful…”
He took a deep breath and tried shouting again.
“Mamaaaa!”
This time, his voice echoed.
And a pair of ears perked up—not far away.
The Rescue Team Arrives
A few moments later, a familiar voice called out.
“Miko? Is that you?”
Miko’s heart jumped. “Mama! I’m here! I fell into the mud pit!”
His mother swung through the trees with graceful speed. Behind her were two of Miko’s best friends—Ravi the squirrel and Pina the young parrot, who had come because they heard the shouting.
When they reached the clearing and saw Miko sitting helplessly in the mud, everyone gasped.
“Oh dear…” Mama whispered, placing a hand over her mouth. “What a poor little monkey! You’re completely covered!”
Ravi burst into giggles. “You look like a chocolate statue!”
Miko blushed and puffed out his cheeks. “It’s not funny…”
“Okay, okay,” Ravi said, trying to hold his laughter. “Let’s get you out.”
Mama acted fast. She grabbed a strong vine hanging from a low branch and tied one end around a sturdy tree trunk.
“Miko, hold onto this,” she instructed gently.
Miko reached for the vine, his muddy hands slipping a bit, but Mama’s voice kept him calm.
“You can do it. Just hold tight.”
With Ravi pulling from the left and Mama pulling from the right, and Pina cheering loudly from above, Miko slowly—very slowly—rose out of the mud pit.
With one final tug—
POP!
Miko came free, landing safely on the ground, though still completely coated in mud.
Cleanup Time
“Thank you…” he whispered, shivering a little.
Mama brushed mud from his face. “Next time, be more careful, my sweet boy. Some places in the forest can be tricky.”
“I know… I’m sorry,” Miko said softly.
“Let’s get you cleaned up,” Mama smiled.
They led him to the nearby stream. The water was cool and clear, rushing gently over smooth stones. Miko sat in the shallow part while Mama washed the mud from his fur.
Ravi and Pina played nearby, occasionally splashing him with water on purpose.
“Hey!” Miko laughed. “Stop it!”
But inside, he felt warm—not from the sun, but from the kindness of his friends and the gentle care of his mother.
It took a while, but eventually all the mud came off. Miko’s fluffy fur returned to its normal softness, though a few leaves were still stuck here and there.
“There you are,” Mama said proudly. “Good as new.”
