Lala was already wide awake when the first rays of sunlight peeked through the curtains. Today was a special day. She had overheard Thuy the night before saying that she needed help taking care of Lu, their cheerful, fluffy little dog with soft golden fur and eyes that sparkled with joy. Lala, always eager to help and be involved in whatever Thuy was doing, was thrilled.
Thuy, still sipping her morning tea in the kitchen, smiled warmly when Lala walked in.
“Good morning, sweetheart,” she said, brushing Lala’s hair back gently.
“Thuy! You said you need help with Lu today, right?” Lala asked eagerly.
Thuy chuckled. “Yes! He needs a full day of care — a bath, some brushing, and maybe even a little walk in the park. Think you’re up for it?”
“I’m ready!” Lala cheered, clapping her hands.
Lu was already sitting at the back door, wagging his tail excitedly, as if he knew he was the center of attention today. He barked softly, his tail sweeping the floor. Lala rushed over and hugged him. “We’re going to have so much fun today, Lu!”
Morning Bath Time
The first task on the list was Lu’s bath. Thuy gathered the supplies — a big fluffy towel, a bottle of dog shampoo, and a little plastic tub they used just for Lu. Lala helped carry everything to the backyard where it was sunny and warm.
Thuy filled the tub with lukewarm water while Lala tried to coax Lu into it. He was a little hesitant at first, backing away and giving her a suspicious look. “It’s okay, Lu! It’s just a bath,” Lala said, laughing as she got splashed by his playful paw.
Eventually, Lu stepped in, and the bathing began. Thuy gently poured water over him while Lala rubbed shampoo into his fur. Lu stood calmly, occasionally shaking off water, making both girls giggle as droplets flew everywhere.
After rinsing and drying him off with the towel, Lu looked fluffy and fresh. He shook himself one last time, spraying water in every direction, and then ran in circles around the yard. “I think he loves being clean!” Lala said with a grin.
Grooming and Brushing
Next, Thuy brought out Lu’s grooming kit. His fur was long and tended to get tangled easily, so regular brushing was a must. Lala sat cross-legged on the porch, and Lu laid his head in her lap as she gently brushed his back.
“Look at all this fluff!” Lala exclaimed, showing Thuy the brush full of golden hair.
Thuy nodded. “You’re doing a great job, sweetie. He really likes when you take care of him.”
With every stroke of the brush, Lu seemed more relaxed. He closed his eyes and even let out a contented sigh. Lala sang a soft little song while she worked, making it a calm and peaceful moment for all of them.
Snack Time
After all the grooming, it was time for a treat. Lala followed Thuy into the kitchen, where they prepared Lu’s favorite snack — little pieces of boiled chicken and carrot sticks.
“Let’s make it special!” Lala suggested. She arranged the treats into a little smiley face on a plate, with carrot sticks for the smile and chicken for the eyes.
When they placed the plate down, Lu immediately perked up and wagged his tail furiously. He devoured the snack in seconds, then looked up as if asking, “Is there more?”
Lala giggled. “Only if you’re a good boy during the walk later!”
A Trip to the Park
With Lu full of energy and the sun shining brightly, it was the perfect time to head to the park. Lala held Lu’s leash while Thuy packed a small bag with water, a bowl, and a ball for playing fetch.
At the park, Lu sniffed every flower, bush, and tree they passed. He pulled a little on the leash, eager to explore, but Lala did a great job keeping him close. “Not so fast, Lu! Let’s walk nicely.”
Once they reached a grassy field, Thuy unclipped the leash and threw the ball. Lu dashed after it with incredible speed, ears flapping and tongue out. Lala clapped her hands as he brought the ball back again and again.
Other dog owners and children in the park noticed how well Lu behaved and how gentle Lala was with him. A woman walking her poodle came over and said, “Your dog is so well-trained!”
Thuy smiled proudly. “Thank you, but it’s my little helper here who’s doing the amazing job today.”
Lala beamed with pride.
Evening Relaxation
After a long walk and lots of playing, it was time to head home. Lu was clearly tired but happy. He jumped into the backseat of the car and fell asleep on the way back, his head resting on Lala’s lap.
At home, Thuy prepared dinner while Lala gave Lu his final brushing of the day. “You were such a good dog today,” she whispered. Lu licked her hand in response.
As they all sat down in the living room after dinner, Lu curled up next to Lala on the sofa. Thuy handed her a little certificate she had made on her computer earlier.
“Official Dog Helper Award: Presented to Lala, for outstanding care, love, and responsibility in looking after Lu.”
Lala’s eyes lit up. “For me?”
“You earned it,” Thuy said with a warm hug. “Lu and I are both very lucky to have you.”
